According to research, the Rwandan society still needs improvements in cancer treatment. According to the Ministry of Health Rwanda (MOH), NCDs such as cancer, cause the highest loss of life in Rwanda, accounting for 59% of all diseases in the country In 2018, there were 10,704 new cases. Of these, 4,520 cases were among men, representing roughly 42.18%, and 6,184 cases were among women, comprising 57.82%. The annual mortality rates were documented at 7,662, reflecting a mortality rate of approximately 71.53%. The implementation of NCD prevention and treatment strategies remains an unfinished agenda. The main challenge lies at the community level where low habits of routine health check-ups do not facilitate the health system in detecting and treating NCDs at the earlier stages. In addition, most hospitals/healthcare in Rwanda tend to misdiagnose patients with NCDs due to a lack of previous patient health information.
How can we improve the accuracy of cancer diagnoses and alleviate medical complications resulting from misdiagnosis in Rwanda?
